Rebooking

If you wish to rebook this home for the upcoming year please call our office before noon EST on the Monday after your departure to check on rates and availability. As a courtesy, many homes are held for you for the same week if you are interested. Please note that larger homes are not available for this first right of refusal policy.

General Information

Air Conditioning: Air conditioners can only maintain temperatures on the top level of a home approximately 20 degrees cooler than the outside heat index. To maintain temperatures, please keep doors and windows closed and close blinds or curtains on the top level during the hottest parts of the day. Please do not set the A/C units below 68 degrees, as this could cause the units to freeze and stop working all together.

Refrigerators The refrigerator in your home may require up to 24 hours after your arrival to reach a stabilized temperature. A normal increase in temperature occurs from unloading, cleaning, and reloading the unit on changeover day, especially on hot days. Keep doors closed as much as possible, set all temperature dials on ‘medium,’ and do not block the vent which provides cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator. Setting the dials above ‘medium’ will not speed up the process and could cause the unit to enter auto-defrost mode and shut down.

KEYLESS ENTRY

To activate your keypad, place your entire palm on the screen, then enter the code provided prior to your arrival. This code activates at 4:00 P.M. on check-in day and is to be used throughout your stay. The code deactivates on your check-out day at 10:00 A.M. If you received a unique code for early check-in, it will deactivate at 4:00 P.M. on check-in day.
• Although you have keyless entry, you need to manually lock the door behind you after entering, or by placing the palm of your hand on the keypad after you exit.
• If you have problems with the lock or see a low battery warning light, please call our office.
• It is important to secure your vacation home during your stay, especially when going out or before retiring in the evenings.

Elevators: Elevators are primarily used to assist guests who may not be able to climb stairs, but are not intended to be ADA compliant. Children using elevators MUST be accompanied by an adult. Please do not press buttons for multiple floors at the same time. Interior and exterior elevator doors must be shut completely for elevator to operate.

Grills: Grills should remain on ground level and must not be moved onto decks.

General Information

Electronics: Please do not reprogram remotes or tamper with the electronic wiring. If you have questions about the operation of electronics, call our office for assistance.

Linens: All beds are freshly made. We supply two sets per King/Queen/Double, one per Twin. Each towel set contains a bath towel, hand towel and washcloth. Each full bathroom will be stocked with a bath mat. Additional towels are available for a fee.

Locked Closets: Locked closets contain owner’s personal property, and the contents are not intended for use by guests. Please do not attempt to open these closets. If you are unsure of whether a locked closet is an owner’s closet, please feel free to give us a call.

Noise: Please familiarize yourself with local ordinances and be aware that excessive noise after certain hours may be disruptive to your neighbors and could prompt a visit by local law enforcement officials.

Parking: Please only park vehicles at your rental home. Trailers, RVs, boats, etc. are prohibited in most communities. Parking on all streets is prohibited. Parking at subdivision amenities is allowed while you are using the facilities. Pay special attention to posted subdivision parking rules to avoid parking tickets or having a boot placed on your vehicle.

Pets: Pets are not permitted in the pool, on furniture, or in beds. Please clean up all pet waste. Pet owners are responsible for damages and extra cleaning. Each town has its own ordinances and leash laws for dogs on the beach, which can be found at CarolinaDesigns.com/pets.

Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in all of our vacation properties. This includes vaping and e-cigarettes. A fee may be charged for violations of this policy.

Trash: Instructions for trash pickup are emailed to you prior to arrival. Please roll cans to the road the night before unless it is noted that you have roll out service. If your home provides a dumpster, it must be clear of
parked cars for the dumpster to be serviced.

WiFi Access: Your home is equipped with complimentary wireless. The property wifi code is emailed to you prior to your arrival.

Check-Out Procedures

• Please abide by our check-out time of 10:00 A.M. Your entry code will expire at that time.
• Please remove all trash from inside and outside the home and place in the outdoor trash barrels or dumpsters provided. Only trash in cans will be picked up.
• Please leave beds unmade. Do not strip the bed linens from the bed.
• Place all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and start the cleaning cycle prior to leaving.
• Check the house for personal belongings before leaving. If you contact our office about a lost item which we are able to locate, it will be returned via UPS.
• Turn off all lights and small appliances.
• Remove all items from the refrigerator. Leave the temperature setting on medium.
• It is important to lock all windows, doors and sliders.

Damage: We understand that occasional damage may occur. Your lease includes a Damage Waiver which does not cover excessive dirt or damage deemed to be deliberate. An extra cleaning fee may be charged if the house, grounds, pool or hot tub are left excessively dirty.

Beach Equipment: All beach equipment (including tents, canopies, and chairs) must be removed from the beach at night. If not, these items are subject to removal by the town.

Safety Considerations

Bonfires: Bonfires are not allowed in the communities of Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk or Kill Devil Hills. Pit fires are allowed in Nags Head with the appropriate permit. For more information, call (252) 441-5909 or obtain an online permit at NagsHeadNC.gov.

Fireworks: Fireworks of any kind (including sparklers) are a potential fire hazard and are strictly prohibited in or around homes. This includes decks, driveways, yards, walkways and dunes. North Carolina prohibits the possession of any pyrotechnics which launch or propel into the air.

Pools and Spas: Please observe all posted pool and spa rules.

Red Flag Warnings: It is against the law to swim in the surf when there is a Red Flag Warning. There are only exceptions for surfers whose boards meet specific requirements. Information about water conditions can be found at obxsurfinfo.com.

Rip Currents: Strong rip currents and shifting sands can make ocean swimming dangerous. Please review rip current information on this site, usla.org/ripcurrents.

Dogs on the Beach

When traveling, a pet ID is always a good idea. Be mindful of your dog’s paws on
hot sand and hot roads. Salt can be hard on your dog’s digestive tract, so always
have fresh water available. In addition, it’s very important to watch for rough surf and rip currents while your dog is at play in the ocean. All towns require that
owners clean up after their dogs while on the beach and dispose of waste
properly.

INSURANCE
If you purchased Red Sky travel insurance, policy information is available by visiting trippreserver.com or by calling 866-889-7409.

MANDATORY EVACUATIONS
Please follow the standard check-out procedures located in this directory. This includes removal of all food and locking all doors and windows. Due to the potential of high winds, do not place trash cans at the roadside for removal. Our staff will be dispatched to secure all outdoor furnishings. If you require additional assistance, please contact our office.

There are two evacuation routes leaving the Outer Banks, US Highway 158 North and US Highway 64/262 West. Roads typically become congested so be prepared and remain patient. Please evacuate as quickly and efficiently as possible during a mandatory evacuation. The increase in wind speeds can impact the ability for ferry services and bridges to remain open. There are no Red Cross approved shelters on the Outer Banks. Listen to local radio stations for information about shelter locations inland. Be aware, drive safely and remain cautious during evacuations.

There may be no finer place to dine waterside on the Outer Banks than Masala Bay Grill, an Indian restaurant with stellar views located just across the Wright Memorial Bridge in Point Harbor, less than 10 minutes from Southern Shores. Flavorful, fresh dishes, many focused on vegetables, or cooked in a tandoori oven, are staples of the menu. The fare is derivative of north Indian cuisine, and includes perfectly spiced curries, vindaloo, and biriyani. Overlooking the Currituck sound, the dining room offers unbeatable panoramic views. Or, sit outside on the water for an al fresco dining experience.
